The task is to design and develop a modern, Business Intelligence (BI) based simulation solution. The work involves exploring and integrating a leading BI system (Qlik Sense) with a modern, cloud-based data processing platform (Databricks). The student's task is to enhance an existing "Tariff Tracker" BI application so that, beyond simply reading and analyzing data, it also features interactive simulation capabilities.
The key to the solution is enabling users to input data, modify parameters directly on the BI interface, and run real-time simulations based on these inputs. The project does not pre-define a specific tool for data entry; instead, the student must assess the existing corporate environment and conduct their own research to select the most suitable simulation and writeback method. Following this selection, the most efficient and optimal ways to integrate the chosen technology into the system must be investigated.
Another major technical challenge of the development involves migrating complex calculation and simulation logic—originally written in Python within a Databricks environment—into Qlik Sense's native data management and expression language (Data Load Script, Set Analysis). This must be done while ensuring the accuracy of the business logic and maintaining fast response times during simulations.
Due to the complexity of the topic, the candidate will gain in-depth knowledge in cloud-based data processing (Data Engineering), technological research and development (R&D), advanced data visualization, BI-side writeback technologies, and algorithmic conversion between different programming languages (Python and Qlik).
Specific tasks for the semester: Assess the simulation requirements of the "Tariff Tracker" application along with the corporate architectural environment. Based on these findings, select and integrate the most optimal writeback technology, and develop the simulation module.
