This project can be divided into two parts for thesis 1 and thesis 2. So, you can finish part of the work in this semester and the remaining for next semester.
Thesis 1 (Design & MVP):
Build a minimal web portal that recommends projects from an editable catalogue based on students' self-declared skills and preferences. Core requirements: project catalogue with add/edit/archive and CSV import; a simple skill/tag taxonomy (with basic synonyms); student onboarding to enter 5–8 skills plus preferred languages/domains; an explainable content-based ranker (required-skill coverage + level-weighted skill match + preference overlap); basic filters and capacity display; authentication and minimal logging. Deliver a working MVP with a small pilot dataset (CS/EE) and brief usability feedback.
Thesis 2 (Enhancements & Evaluation):
Extend the system with light preference learning from user feedback, typo/synonym-tolerant search, semester roll-over tools, gap-aware guidance ("willing to learn"), and simple analytics (tag popularity, inactive projects). Deliver tested code, deployment scripts, documentation, and a concise analysis of results and limitations.
