Generic Content-recommendation framework for the 3 screens (Telekom ERNYŐ)
As the number of users of the diferent platforms and devices keep growing, there are many applications, audio-visual contents and services are being developed. Those services rarely reach the end users as they usually do not have enough time to search for the most appropriate offer for their needs or tasks. From that follows that there is a need for a well-established content recommendation framework for all the three “screens” (phone, tablet, smart TV) which finds and recommends the most appropriate and easily consumable content for the user, based on his previous behavior.
The primary goal of this project is to design and develop a content recommendation tool for the three mentioned screens that build up a user profile based on the input from the different devices, and uses this profile to place further offers and recommendations. Such inputs can be the list of consumed broadcast, media contents, purchased mobile applications or music, etc.
During the course of this project, we analyzed the services offered by Telekom, and spotted the potential data sources, such as IPTV, Hybrid, Mobile applications, iWIW (social networks) etc., which we used to gather the user behavior statistics. Based on these profiles, we elaborated a data warehouse system, where these profiles can be stored and accessed in an appropriate format. We also adopted a data mining procedure that helps revealing the usage patterns and trends, in order to make the recommendations for the different content types.
Cloud-based Framework for mobile enterprise web sites (Telekom ERNYŐ)
Smartphones and tablets sport smaller displays and reduced input methods than desktop computers or notebooks, therefore the web pages designed for the traditional environment cannot be presented properly on their screens. Most of the enterprise content authors do not take the time to design an appropriate layout and presentation for the mobile devices, as the fragmentation of the smartphones and tablets results in a different-looking and often unusable web page (even when created with semi-professional authoring tools).
The most frequent issues are:
- small font size, hard-to-read presentation
- small and unusable links or control elements
- inappropriate layout (e.g. too wide etc.)
The aim of this project was to design and develop a web based framework that is capable to render the content in an optimal way for the different mobile devices inan easy-to-use manner. Using this framework, the user of the service will be able to manage his homepage in an ergonomic control environment, and the result is a properly rendered and user friendly webpage on desktop and mobile environments as well.
Application porting to smartTV platforms (Telekom ERNYŐ)
Besides the spread of smartphones and tablets, also the number of the so called Smart TV’s is increasing. We can predict the increasing role of these devices in the average households. Magyar Telekom makes various services available for the users of the smartphones, tablets and IPTV services with different applications like Netpincér, Mobilvásárlás, insurance apps etc. The number of users of these applications can be increased by making these services available for smart TV owners.
The aim of this project is to analyze the portability of these applications for the widespread smart TV platforms. First, we designed and developed an efficient solution that enables the porting of the pieces of operator software to these smart devices. Second, a bunch of selected applications was ported to the most popular platforms.
During the course of this project we paid special attention to the latest Samsung and LG smart TV platforms as they are the most popular ones in the Telekom’s offers.

M2M technology in the households (Telekom ERNYŐ)
The Machine-to-Machine (m2m) technololgy keeps spreading in the home (household) environments. Its applicability is straightforward because of the number of residential WLAN networks and the increasing number of mobile internet. The sensors and other devices can communicate with each other directly, and they can also be organized in a mesh topology. The most widespread sensors in the households are the security (IP) camera, burglar alarm, remote surveillance systems. Most of them use the mobile internet to communicate with the end users.
The primary goal of this project is to have a state-of-the-art description og the m2m technology and its usage in Hungary, moreover, to design and develop actual applications to demonstrate the opportunities with the smart metering technology. We have designed a piece of software for data collection to gather information from those sensors.
The aim of the developed prototype is to carefully select or develop the intelligent sensors and devices that can cover the following fields (important for Magayr Telekom):
- Home Security
- Home Energy Control
- Home Automation Services
- e-HealthCare
- SmartMetering
A further addition of the project contains the design and development software bundles for an intelligent controller that incorporates the standard OSGi stack.
