Short Description of AAS

The Automated Assessment System (AAS) is a web-based academic platform developed at BME AUT to support the creation, management, and evaluation of exams and assignments. The system provides role-based dashboards, course and group management, exam session handling, automated evaluation, etc. The system is focused on transparent and objective assessment, reduced instructor workload and improved student feedback experience. The system is built with Node.js (REST API), Angular, relational DB and OpenAI integration.

The current frontend requires further development to improve maintainability, component reusability, performance, responsiveness, and support for newly introduced system features. Particular attention should be paid to modern Angular architecture, scalable component design, efficient state management, and seamless integration with backend services.

Your role would be to develop production-quality web application features in collaboration with other members of the Developers Team. This is a real educational platform used in University courses on BME AUT, not a demonstration project.

Tasks for the Project Lab (Applied UX/UI Design & Frontend Collaboration)

You main task will be to design and implement new frontend functionality for the AAS using modern Angular development practices. The exact tasks will be defined after a personal meeting with the Developers Team. Your possible tasks may include the following.

Frontend Development

  • Develop new Angular components and application modules.
  • Implement responsive and reusable user interfaces.
  • Integrate frontend components with REST API endpoints.
  • Improve form validation, user feedback, loading indicators, and error handling.
  • Refactor existing code where appropriate to improve maintainability.
  • Apply modern Angular best practices (standalone components, signals where applicable, reactive forms, routing, dependency injection, etc.).
  • Collaborate with Developers Team members to implement approved interface designs.

DELIVERABLE: Production-ready frontend implementation integrated into the AAS.

Testing and Quality Assurance

  • Test implemented functionality across different user roles.
  • Perform frontend debugging and issue fixing.
  • Improve application responsiveness and performance where applicable.
  • Write unit tests for selected frontend components.
  • Document implemented features and architectural decisions.

Deliverables:

  • Implemented Angular components and application modules.

  • Source code committed through the project's Git workflow.

  • Technical documentation

  • Short live demonstration at the end of the semester + PPT slides for the end-of-semester report

The topic may be continued as a Thesis Project.

Please note! Acceptance to the topic is possible only after an interview with the supervisor (Dr. Dunaev) and a representative of the development team.

Feltételek

  • Strong frontend fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React), understanding of UI/UX principles, experience with design/prototyping tools, good knowledge of web application architecture and REST APIs
